Leopards qualify 5, Falcons advance 4 into WPIAL golf semis
Belle Vernon qualified five golfers and Connellsville advanced four in the WPIAL Section 2-AAA individual qualifier held at Butler’s Golf Course’s Woodside course.
Ten golfers met the target score of 82 to advance through to the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals at Southpointe Golf Club on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Leopards’ Jordan Mocello was medalist with a 1-under 71 (35-36). Teammate Jack Edwards trailed by a stroke in second place.
Belle Vernon’s Seth Tomalski shot 76 (38-38) for fourth place and teammate Donnie Croftcheck was a shot off his pace for fifth place. Landon Vaccaro gave Belle Vernon five qualifiers after tying for seventh-place with 81.
Connellsville’s Ethan Porreca was alone in third place after shooting 74 (37-37). The Falcons’ Derek Routzahn was sixth with a score of 79 (42-37). Teammate Eli Armstrong earned a berth with his seventh-place finish after carding 81.
Connellsville’s Hunter Konieczny and Laurel Highlands’ Tyler Cook secured berths by finishing right on the target score of 82.
Albert Gallatin’s Caeden Williams and Uniontown’s Brody Schiffbauer both just missed the cut with 83.
Section 8-AA qualifier – Shady Side Academy’s Landon Mauser was the medalist at Madison Club with a 3-under 69.
Elizabeth Forward sophomore Aaron Didjunas finished second after shooting 35 on both sides for a 2-under 70. Teammates Luke Boyer (73), Mitchell Vuick (77), and Julien Hredocik (80) also qualified for next Monday’s Class AA semifinal at Youghiogheny Country Club, the Warriors’ home course.
Levi Large (73), Gage Patterson (76), and Jake Corrin (78) all made the cut to extend their seasons by another week.
Frazier’s Aidan Hardy shot 75 (37-38) to earn a berth into the next round.
Geibel Catholic teammates Seth Dolan and Mike Miller were right on the target score after shooting 82. Both shot 43 on the front and closed with 39.
