North Union waiting on estimates to fix vandalized ballfield

By Mark Hofmann 1 min read

Weeks after the driver of a Jeep caused damage driving around Mount Braddock Ballfield in North Union Township, supervisors are waiting to see how much the repairs will cost.

Township Supervisor Curtis Matthews said they are awaiting estimates on the cost to repair a fence and dirt that surround the field.

On April 6, a Jeep tore through the area, leaving deep tire tracks in the mud. It eventually became stuck, and the driver, believed to be a juvenile, left it there.

Supervisor Ron Landman said officials are also waiting to hear from the township’s insurance company to see what repairs will be covered.

While the outside of the field may not yet be restored, Matthews said those who hope to play baseball there this summer needn’t worry. There was no damage done to the field itself, so baseball practices or games will go on as usual, he said.

State police investigated the vandalism, but Matthews said there have not been any updates as to whether charges will be filed.
