Lady FalconsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Moore, Cameron-Botti seeded 1st at Powerade
Connellsville’s Trinity Moore and Imani Cameron-Botti are seeded first in their weight classes for the girls Powerade wrestling tournament on Monday at Canon-McMillan High School.
Moore is the No. 1 seed at 118 pounds and Cameron-Botti is the top seed at 155. The duo placed at last year’s Powerade with Moore finishing as runner-up and Cameron-Botti placing third.
The boys tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Canon-McMillan, but Connellsville’s Evan Petrovich was the only local that was seeded in the top eight. The University of Pittsburgh recruit is the sixth seed at 152.
Also seeded in the girls tournament is the Lady Falcons’ Julieth Flores (6th at 100), Janayah Nobles (3rd at 136) and Olivia Shultz (7th at 170).
While the girls tournament is challenging, the boys is rated as one of the top three high school wrestling tournaments in the country with the Walsh Jesuit Ironman and the Beast of the East.
The 58th edition of what began as the California State Christmas Tournament will feature 74 teams, including many top-level national prep schools.
Norwin’s Landon Sidun is the lone WPIAL wrestler in the boys tournament that was awarded a top seed. The sophomore and reigning state champion, is No. 1 at 121 pounds.
Sidun won Powerade last year and is fresh off a championship in the Beast of the East. He is coached by Connellsville graduate Kyle Martin.
The Falcons will be joined in the boys tournament by Waynesburg Central and West Greene.
Albert Gallatin, Connellsville and Southmoreland make up the three local teams in the girls tournament.
Action in the boys tournament begins Friday morning at 8 and Day 1 will conclude with the quarterfinals and fifth-round consolations at 7:30 p.m. Day 2 begins at 9:30 a.m. with the sixth-round consolations. The Parade of Champions is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the finals at 3:30.
The girls tournament begins at 10 a.m.
