Viking golfers secure playoff berth with home victory

Mount Pleasant secured a Section 2-AA playoff berth with a 211-223 home victory over Greensburg Salem Wednesday afternoon at Norvelt Golf Club.

The Vikings finished with a 9-3 section record and 10-3 overall mark. The Golden Lions close with an 8-4 section record.

Ryan Karfelt led the way for Mount Pleasant with 38. Aydan Gross shot 39. Nico Pisula and Austyn Gross both finished with 43, and Darren Kinneer closed the scoring with 48. Antonio Fleck’s 49 was not used.

Greensburg Salem’s Luke Sikora was medalist with 35.

Belle Vernon 180, Uniontown 218 – The Leopards finished the season undefeated with a Section 2-AAA road win at Uniontown Country Club.

Belle Vernon posted a 12-0 record in section play and an overall mark of 14-0. The Red Raiders closed with an 8-4 section record and 10-6 overall mark.

Both teams are scheduled to play in the FCCA Golf Championship on Friday at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

Belle Vernon’s Jordan Mocello and Jack Edwards shared medalist honors after both shot 3-under 33. Seth Tomalski shot an even-par 36. Donny Croftcheck finished with 38 and Landon Vaccaro closed the scoring with 40. Lukas Judy’s 42 was not used.

Austin Thomas was the low man for Uniontown with 40. Trevor Uphold (46), Emily Myers (45), Colton Mathias (46), and Brody Schiffbauer (41) also counted in the final score. Eli Friend’s 50 did not count.

Waynesburg Central 180, Beth-Center 223 – The Raiders counted five scores of 38 or lower for a Section 3-AA home victory at Rohanna’s Golf Course.

Waynesburg improves to 9-2 in the section and 11-3 overall.

The Raiders’ Chase Phillips fired the medalist round of 1-under 32. Joe Kirsch shot 36. Aidan Titus and Rykan Gusfafson both finished with 37, and Jarett Tretinik closed the scoring with 38. Dom Benamati’s 42 did not count.

Luke Amon led the Bulldogs with an even-par 33. Parker Amos (46), Karson Keys (47), Evan Lowman (41), and Josh Murr (46) rounded out the scoring.

Jefferson-Morgan 212, Albert Gallatin 231 – The Colonials’ Caeden Williams was the medalist, but the Rockets were tough at home for a non-section win at Greene County Country Club.

Williams shot 2-over 38 for Albert Gallatin (5-9). Trent Clemmer (44), Hayden Metts (45), Tyler Felio (49), and James Williams (55) also counted in the final score. Paityn Stout’s 57 was not used.

The Rockets’ Urijah Teasdale had a solid round with a 3-over 39. Clay Wilson (42), Brendan Wood (43), Dayten Marion (43), and Jack Shaffer (45) closed out the scoring rounds. Brayden Ellsworth’s 52 did not count.

Girls soccer

Oakland Catholic 4, Laurel Highlands 0 – Corinna Martella scored a hat trick in Oakland Catholic’s Section 3-AAA road win.

Ella Stackhouse also scored a goal for Oakland Catholic (3-2, 4-4). Laurel Highlands goes to 2-3 in the section and 3-4 overall.

Chartiers-Houston 1, Bentworth 0 — The Lady Bucs scored the only goal late in the first half for a Section 2-A home victory.

The loss was the first for the Lady Bearcats, who are now 3-1 in the section and 6-1 overall. Chartiers-Houston is 3-1 in the section and 5-2 overall.

Waynesburg Central 7, California 0 – Kolbi Rastoka scored two goals and assisted on three others in the Lady Raiders’ Section 2-A home win.

Emily Rafferty scored two goals and had two assists for Waynesburg (4-1, 7-1). Rylei Rastoka, Jaden Tretinik and Bree Clutter all scored one goal apiece.

California goes to 1-1-1 in the section and 2-3-1 overall.
