Red Raider golfers stay alive in hunt for playoff berth

The Uniontown boys golf team remained in the hunt for a Section 2-AAA playoff berth with a 201-221 road victory over McKeesport Monday afternoon at ButlerÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Golf CourseÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Woodside course.

The Red Raiders (9-3) pulled into a second-place tie with Connellsville at 7-2 after the FalconsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ loss to Belle Vernon. Uniontown closes the season with Laurel Highlands on Wednesday, at Connellsville on Thursday, and at home with Belle Vernon on Sept. 18.

The bottom of the lineup provided the spark for the Red Raiders with Austin Thomas firing 36 and Brody Schiffbauer finishing with 37. Trevor Uphold carded 42. Colton Mathias and Elim Martin both finished with 43. Eli FriendÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 52 did not count.

Kaleb Smith was the low man for the Tigers with 38.

Laurel Highlands 214, Albert Gallatin 220 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The MustangsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Kayden Smith shared medalist honors with the ColonialsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Caeden Willims in Laurel HighlandsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Section 2-AAA home win at Uniontown Country Club.

Smith and Williams both shot 38.

Sevi Vecchiolla and Tyler Cook both finished with 41 for the Mustangs (4-5, 4-6). Jacob Kalich shot 44. Nico Harim and Ryan Revak both carded 50.

Trenton Clemmer (44), Hayden Metts (42), Geno Valenti (45), and Paityn Stout (51) rounded out the scoring for Albert Gallati (4-5, 5-6).

Waynesburg Central 183, Jefferson-Morgan 198 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The RocketsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Urijah Teasdale shot 2-under 31 at RohannaÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Golf Course, but the Raiders counted five scores 40 or lower for a Section 3-AA victory.

Aiden Titus led Waynesburg (7-2, 9-2) with an even-par 33. Chase Philips and Dom Benamati both shot 36. Joe Kirsch finished with 38 and Jarett Tretinik closed the scoring with 40. Avery DavisÎÞëÊÓƵ™ 47 was not used.

Brendan Wood (38) and Clay Wilson (39) broke 40 for Jefferson-Morgan (6-4, 7-7). Dayten Marion (42) and Brayden Ellsworth (48) closed out the scoring. Jack ShafferÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 49 did not count.

Beth-Center 208, Brownsville 249 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The BulldogsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Luke Amon shared medalist honors with the FalconsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Benjamin Vojacek with 1-under 36, but Beth-Center returned home from Carmichaels Golf Club with a Section 3-AA victory.

Karson Keys shot 38 for Beth-Center (3-9, 3-11). Evan Lowman carded 44. Jordan Lowman, Josh Murr and Parker Amos all shot 45.

Dominic Capan (47), Ava Rohland (49), Tyler Glumac (62), and Camden Kline (55) scored for Brownsville (0-8, 0-8).

Charleroi 210, Geibel Catholic 231 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Cougars returned home from Pleasant Valley Golf Club with a Section 8-AA road victory.

Jake Corrin was the low man for Charleroi (8-2, 9-3) with 5-over 40. Kaden Woods and Ethan Hartley both finished with 42. Gage Patterson and Josh Chambers both shot 43.

Mike Miller led the Gators (0-9, 0-9) with 41. Seth Dolan shot 42 and John Hess finished with 43. Aiden Holt (56) and Luke Kalivoda (59) closed out the scoring.

Elizabeth Forward 196, Frazier 219 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Aaron Didjunas shot an even-par 37 in the WarriorsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Section 8-AA road win at Linden Hall Golf Course.

Dom Donato finished with 39 for Elizabeth Forward. Luke Boyer, Julien Hredocik and Blake Hvozdik all shot 40.

Aidan Hardy was the low golfer for the Commodores with 41. Travis Smith and Eli Cernuska both finished with 42. Dylan Keilbach (44) and Brant Alakson (50) also counted in the final score.

Girls volleyball

Frazier 3, Southmoreland 1 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Lady Commodores won the final two sets for a non-section home win.

Frazier (2-2) won the first set, 25-18. Southmoreland tied the match with a 25-21 win in the second set. The Commodores closed out the win by taking the last two sets, 25-13, 25-12.

FrazierÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Grace Vaughn had a triple-double with 15 kills, 15 digs and 17 service points. Gracen Hartman had a double-double with 32 assists and 13 service points. Allie Monack (13 kills), Addison Schultz (12 kills, 4 blocks), Mia West (4 blocks), and Addison Hiles (13 digs) also contributed to the victory.

Girls tennis

Mount Pleasant 3, Derry 2 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Lady Vikings swept the doubles and Bella Fullman won her singles match for a Section 1-AA victory.

Danica Trainer and Autumn Jurkovic-Kuzma and Ella Alakson and Hannah Shawley won their doubles matches.

Girls soccer

Peters Twp. 6, Connellsville 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Julia Spergel scored a hat trick in Peters TownshipÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Section 2-AAAA victory over the visiting Lady Falcons.

Taylor McCollumn scored a goal in each half and Milena Gill netted one goal for Peters Twp. (2-0, 5-0).

Sara Tinkey turned aside 25 shots for Connellsville (0-2, 4-4). Kaitlyn Strine made one save to preserve the shutout.

Laurel Highlands 5 Uniontown 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Adrianna Walker scored twice in Laurel HighlandsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Section 3-AAA win over rival Uniontown.

Elle Mancini. Taylor Irwin and Neela Hill all scored once for Laurel Highlands.

McGuffey 3, Belle Vernon 2 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ McGuffey converted a penalty kick with around 11 minutes remaining for a Section 1-AA home win.

Grace West set up Abby Russell for Belle VernonÎÞëÊÓƵ™s goal in the first half. Courtney Martin scored for the Lady LeopardsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ goal in the second half.

Belle Vernon goes to 2-2 in the section and 3-4 overall.

Waynesburg Central 4, Beth-Center 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Kolbi Rastoka scored two goals and assisted on another in the Lady RaidersÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Section 2-A victory.

Emily Rafferty and Avery Davis scored one goal apiece in the win.

Chartiers-Houston 8, Brownsville 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Amelia Brose and Ava Capozzoli both scored a hat trick in the Lady BucsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Section 2-A win over the Lady Falcons.

Chartiers-Houston improves to 2-0 in the section and 4-1 overall. Brownsville slips to 0-1-1 in the section and 0-4-1 overall.

Indiana 3, Elizabeth Forward 2 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Indiana slipped by the Lady Warriors for a Section 4-AAA win.

Elizabeth Forward is 1-2 in the section and overall.

Mount Pleasant 5, Deer Lakes 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Morgan GesinskiÎÞëÊÓƵ™s hat trick led the Lady Vikings to a Section 4-AA win over Deer Lakes.

Rylin Bugosh scored the other two goals for Mount Pleasant (2-0, 5-0). Laurel Rummel preserved the shutout.

Southmoreland 7, Ligonier Valley 1 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Megan Mehall scored a hat trick and Aubrey Seder finished with two goals in the Lady ScotsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Section 4-AA win over the Lady Rams.

Southmoreland improves to 2-0 in the section and 4-2 overall.
