LeopardsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ offense has breakout game in 68-21 win

Belle Vernon’s offense had a breakout game Friday night with a 68-21 victory over visiting Chartiers Valley in a Big 6 Conference game.

Belle Vernon scored 33 points in the first quarter and 20 more in the second quarter.

Curtis Wade had touchdown passes of 49 and 4 yards, and scoring runs of 40 and 79 yards for the Leopards (1-1, 2-3). Wade completed all five passes he attempted for 100 yards.

Teammate Kole Doppelheuer scored on runs of 47 and 39 yards, and finished with 126 yards rushing on 10 carries. Deaubre Lightfoot scored on a 49-yard pass reception and 60-yard punt return.

The Leopards’ Chase Petrosky had a 2-yard touchdown run and Jace Gedekoh added a 6-yard touchdown run.

Waynesburg Central 27, Carlynton 26, OT – Jacob Stephenson powered into the end zone from a yard out and Dalton Taylor added the game-deciding extra point in overtime to rally the Raiders to a Century Conference victory.

Carlynton also scored a touchdown in overtime, but was then stopped on a two-point conversion run by Waynesburg’s defense to end the game.

Stephenson completed 8 of 10 passes for 113 yards and had 17 carries for 121 yards to lead the way for the Raiders. Ross Tennant contributed 12 carries for 68 yards and three receptions for 43 yards. Teagen Crouse caught four passes for 35 yards.

The Cougars (0-3, 3-4) led 6-0 after the first quarter on John Sciulli’s 1-yard touchdown run, but Stephenson scored on a 3-yard run and Taylor was successful for a 7-6 halftime lead.

Carlynton regained the lead in the third quarter, 14-7, on another 1-yard plunge by Sciulli and Devonte Dean’s two-point pass to Paul Work.

Tennant scored two touchdowns for the Raiders (2-1, 4-3) in the fourth quarter to force overtime. He powered in from two yards out at 10:15 and broke free for a 15-yard scoring run with 4:05 remaining. Taylor converted one of the point-after tries.

Dean scored on a 1-yard run for the Cougars but the extra point was missed leaving the game tied at 20-20.

Albert Gallatin 41, Clear Spring (Md.) 21 – Caleb DeHaven rushed for 235 yards and was one of six different Colonials to score a touchdown in a non-conference victory at Clear Spring in Maryland.

Tee Guesman added 97 yards and a TD on just six attempts and Adam Pegg contributed nine carries for 82 yards and a score as Albert Gallatin (4-3) rolled up 452 yards on the ground.

The Colonials got touchdown runs of 4 yards from Bronx Jamison and 11 yards from Pegg sandwiched around Hayden Hodge’s 57-yard scoring toss to Joseph Torres for the Cougars (3-2) as AG took a 14-7 lead after one quarter.

DeHaven scored on a 3-yard run and Roman Smith found the end zone on a 2-yard run in the second quarter as AG surged to a 28-7 halftime lead.

Xavier Rice plowed in for a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter and after Hodge’s second TD pass, this one to Will Bennett for 29 yards, Guesman broke free for a 57-yard scoring run to put the visitors ahead 41-14.

Alex Matthews’ 1-yard touchdown run for Clear Spring on the first play of the fourth quarter and Hodge’s third PAT capped the game’s scoring.

Sam Evans kicked five extra points for the Colonials. Jamison threw only three passes, completing one for 32 yards to DeHaven.

Leechburg 62, Frazier 16 – The Commodores scored touchdowns in the second and four quarters in a Eastern Conference home loss.

Jayden Floyd and Tim Andrasy both scored four touchdowns for Leechburg (4-0, 7-0).

Andrew Bandish and Chris Petruska each scored a touchdown for Frazier (0-4, 1-6). Derek Diamond added a pair of two-point conversion runs.

Mount Pleasant 28, Greensburg Salem 21 – The Vikings scored all 28 points in the fourth quarter for an Interstate Conference road victory.

The game-deciding points came on Brody Hutter’s 1-yard run and Jarett Garn’s extra point.

The Vikings (2-0, 4-3) trailed 7-0 entering the fourth quarter.

Mount Pleasant tied the game on Cole Chatfield’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Eicher and Garn’s extra point.

Mount Pleasant pushed into the lead on Brody Hutter’s 3-yard run and Garn’s point-after. The Golden Lions tied the game on Dom Rostensteel’s 46-yard scoring pass from Brody Chismar.

The tie was short-lived, though, because Eicher returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to the end zone.

Chatfield completed 9-of-13 passes for 157 yards.

Southmoreland 53, Yough 34 – The two Interstate Conference teams combined for 87 points in an offensive explosion at Southmoreland.

The Scotties (2-0, 6-1) scored 32 points in the fourth quarter.

Southmoreland led 14-7 after the first quarter. The Cougars (0-2, 2-5) tied the game at halftime, 21-21, and led 28-21 after three quarters.

Southmoreland’s Anthony Smith threw touchdown passes of 25, 11 and 9 yards, and completed 15-of-24 passes for 215 yards.

Camren Phillips had rushing touchdowns of 55, 2, and 21 yards. He finished with 131 yards rushing on 13 carries. Ethan Shawley had fourth-quarter scoring runs of 30 and 10 yards. Jake Kaylor caught a 9-yard touchdown pass and converted six extra points. Elliot Premus caught six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Raidon Kuroda accounted for all of the Cougars’ scores. He had touchdown passes of 9 and 11 yards, and had scoring runs of 4, 4 and 19 yards. Kuroda completed 14-of-31 passes for 124 yards and ran for 120 yards on 27 carries.

California 44, Carmichaels 8 – The Trojans scored 31 points in the first half to roll to a Tri-County South Conference home victory.

California’s Lee Qualk had touchdown runs of 12, 2, 3 and 39 yards and rushed for 216 yards. Malachi Peak added a 23-yard scoring run for the Trojans (4-0, 6-0). Vinny Manzella returned a blocked punt 36 yards for a touchdown and Christian Ross connected on a 27-yard field goal.

Parker Hewitt scored for the Mikes in the fourth quarter on a 74-yard run. Hewitt carried the ball four times for 100 yards.

Jefferson-Morgan 35, Beth-Center 0 – Houston Guesman threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns in the Rockets’ Tri-County South Conference home win.

Guesman had touchdown passes of 62 and 27 yards to Deakyn Dehoet, and 55 yards to Ryan Baker. Dehoet caught five passes for 121 yards and Baker had two receptions for 96 yards.

Johnny Gilbert added a 3-yard touchdown run.

Avella 49, Mapletown 0 – The Eagles’ Chas Rush ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third for a Tri-County South Conference road victory.

Rush scored on runs of 15 and 1 yards, and threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Wright. Rush gained 115 yards on the ground and was 5-of-5 for 88 yards.

Wright had a touchdown pass and Broden Hamm and Bo Allison added short touchdown runs. Isaiah Stokes returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown.

Connellsville 17, North Star 7 – The Falcons returned home with a non-conference victory.

The teams’ defenses picked up in the second half, allowing just three points.

Connellsville improves to 2-5.

North Star’s Ethan Smith spotted the home team the lead in the second quarter.

Connellsville’s Linkon Keller tied the game on a 2-yard touchdown run.

Keller connected with Major Stash for a catch-and-run 36-yard touchdown late in the first half and then powered two yards into the end zone for a 14-7 halftime lead.

The Falcons’ Derek Routzahn hit a field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Carrick 44, Brownsville 0 – The Raiders (2-4) defeated the host Falcons (0-5) in a non-conference game at Redstone Field.
