Southmoreland's Mehall places 6th in 800
Ringgold senior Ryan Pajak won his second silver medal of the PIAA Class AAA Individual Track & Field Championship at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium on Saturday after finishing second in the 3,200.
Pajak crossed the finish line in 8:54.16. Butler’s Drew Griffith completed his sweep of the distance races with his first-place finish in a meet-record time of 8:43.72.
Pajak led the race through the first four laps. Griffith made his move as the pair headed into the fifth lap and didn’t look back with split times of 1:05.37, 1:01.79, 1:04.24 and 1:05.93.
Pajak’s splits in the last four laps were 1:06.70, 1:06.60, 1:09.49 and 1:05.06.
Southmoreland sophomore Megan Mehall finished sixth in the Class AA 800 with a time of 2:17.25.
Southmoreland junior Lexi Ohler finished 13th in the Class AA 3,200 with a time of 11:24.41. She was 20th after the first of eight laps. Ohler was in 17th place midway through the race. She jumped into 12th place with one lap remaining.
Ohler, Mehall, Kate Campbell and Ashley Seder finished 18th in the Class AA 3,200 relay with a time of 10:12.63.
Mount Pleasant junior Garrett Eicher finished 12th in the Class AA pole vault after he cleared 13 feet.
Eicher needed only one attempt to clear 12 feet, the opening height, and the next height at 12-6. He needed two attempts at 13 feet, falling short on all three tries at 13-6.
Belle Vernon sophomore Ryan Kent was 14th in the Class AAA discus with a top throw of 147 feet. His first attempt was 136-3 and second throw was 137-1.
Connellsville senior Nicholas Rohal was 18th in the discus with a best effort of 144-7. He fouled on his first throw and had 142-9 on his second attempt.
