Lady Scots eke out 1-0 win at Latrobe
The Southmoreland girls scored a run without a hit for a 1-0 non-section victory Tuesday afternoon at Latrobe.
Riley Puckey struck out, but advanced to first on a dropped third strike. Amarah McCutcheon and Maddie Brown walked to load the bases, and Puckey scored on a wild pitch.
Brown allowed four hits, walked two and struck out seven for the win. She stranded runners at second base twice.
Southmoreland (4-0) opens section play next Monday at Ligonier Valley.
Carmichaels 5, Hollins (Fla.) 0 – Bailey Barnyak scattered two hits and the Lady Mikes pieced together three hits and five walks for a non-section victory.
Carmichaels scored one run in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings, and added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Barnyak struck out 15, but walked seven.
Ali Jacobs drove in two runs and Megan Voithofer finished with one RBI in the win.
Mount Pleasant 11, Greensburg Salem 4 – Gianna Stanek hit a home run and Emma Scanlon finished with three hits to lead the Lady Vikings to a non-section win.
Dani Trainer struck out 14 in the win, and finished with a triple and single. Ally Jones drove in two runs with two hits for Mount Pleasant (2-2).
Alle Scarpa led the Lady Lions (1-3) with a home run and single. Gionnah Ruffner had a double and single.
Baseball
Mount Pleasant 9, River Valley 2 – Luke Nicotera had two RBI in the Vikings’ non-section victory over River Valley.
Cole Chatfield, CJ Nestor and Dane Firmstone all had two hits for Mount Pleasant (1-3).
Merreck Smith and Niko Vadala both hit a double for River Valley.
