Ringgold senior Ryan Pajak defeated all runners, save ButlerÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Drew Griffith, this spring to cap his solid running career with two WPIAL and two PIAA silver medals.

Charleroi freshman Braedin Lunger started his career with noteworthy performances on the track, as well as in the field, and accumulated four postseason medals.

The two athletes shined this spring and for their accomplishments they are recognized as the top performers on the 2024 ÎÞëÊÓƵ-Standard Boys All-Area Track & Field Team.

3,200 relay: Elizabeth Forward.

NOTES: PajakÎÞëÊÓƵ™s second-place finish of 4:07.06 in the 1,600 was lower than the previous WPIAL mark of 4:09.53 set by Griffith in 2023. He was just .06 seconds off the previous WPIAL record time of 8:56.43 in his silver medal performance in the 3,200. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Pajak will be teammates with Griffith at Notre Dame this fall. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Lunger had an outstanding first season both on the track and in the field. The freshman won silver in the long jump after battling Qualk in the WPIAL Class AA final. Lunger was fourth in the 100 high hurdles and fifth in the high jump to earn berths into the PIAA Championship. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Lunger added another medal to his case after he placed seventh in the long jump at the state meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Lunger also won Section 6-AA Championship titles in the 110 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles and high jump. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Local athletes won a total of 24 medals with one gold, four silver, four bronze, two fourth place, two fifth place, four sixth place, six seventh place and one eighth place. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Qualk won the lone WPIAL gold medal after winning the Class AA long jump. He also placed seventh in the 100 for a berth in the state meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Qualk won three individual titles in the Section 6-AA meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Garn was the Class AA silver medalist in the 200 and placed sixth in the 100 at the district meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Stokes won bronze medals in the 100 and 200 in the WPIAL Class AAA final. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Eicher finished third in the pole vault in Class AA. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Rohal won a bronze medal in the discus in the WPIAL Class AAA meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Kent broke the Belle Vernon school record with his fourth-place finish in the discus. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Halinka was fifth in the WPIAL finals in the 300 intermediate hurdles. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Taylor (javelin) and Sowers (pole vault) were sixth in the WPIAL Class AA final in their respective events. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Edwards picked the right time for his best jump of the season to finish sixth in the WPIAL Class AAA triple jump. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Burgos (1,600), BrownsvilleÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 400 relay, Climes (shot put), Ricciuti (high jump), and Minerd (javelin) all placed seventh in the WPIAL finals. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Schroyer vaulted to an eighth-place finish in the pole vault. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ The Waynesburg Central 400 relay team was ninth, just .08 seconds off the medals stand. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Schwertfeger placed ninth in the 800, a mere .17 seconds from winning a WPIAL Class AAA medal. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Pellegrini was ninth and Abercrombie finished 10th in the javelin in the WPIAL Class AA meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Edwards (field) and Schwertfeger (track) successfully defended their MVP titles in the county meet. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Mullaney and his Connellsville staff led the Falcons to section and county team titles once again this season. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ Loomis and his California staff rallied the Trojans to a Section 6-AA deciding win over Waynesburg a week after the meet was postponed because of rain. ÎÞëÊÓƵ¦ The WPIAL championships were spread over two days after a number of weather delays on the opening day forced the eventual postponement of the meet around 8 p.m.
