ALVERTON ëƵ Southmoreland secured bonus points on all eight bouts the Scotties won Wednesday night for a key 46-26 Section 2-AA victory against visiting Albert Gallatin.

Southmoreland improves to 4-1 in the section and hosts section-leading Mount Pleasant in the Section 2-AA final next week. Albert Gallatin slips to 1-3 in section play.

ëƵThis was big. With Mount Pleasant beating Frazier, that (last match) could be for the section title,ëƵ said Southmoreland coach Dan Boring.

ëƵWe gave them too many falls. We gave them way too many pins,ëƵ said Albert Gallatin coach Duane Dupont. ëƵI thought it was going to be a lot closer.

They did a good job of staying off their backs. We have to get better at that.ëƵ

Dupont added, ëƵThat score didnëƵt indicate the type of match it was. It shouldëƵve been a lot closer. But, unfortunately, we gave up too many pins.ëƵ

Boring noted winning the bonus points would be the key to victory.

ëƵThat was what we preached all week. It was going to be a tossup kind of match,ëƵ said Boring.

The Colonials opened with Colton KelleyëƵs 12-5 decision over Camren Lee at 145 pounds.

Southmoreland countered with three consecutive pins.

Shawn Hollis downed Steve Shearin in 2:30 at 152 pounds. Landon Delara needed 2:45 to pin Nick Hilyard at 160 pounds, and Ethan Kenney won by fall in 1:12 at 172 pounds over Landon Conroy.

ëƵWe started out at 160. WeëƵre in a 2-0 match and the kid turns in and gets caught, and he gets put on his back and gets pinned,ëƵ said Dupont. ëƵëƵAt 172, weëƵre winning by eight or nine points, and he gets pinned. That was big momentum. The 172-pound match was a 12-point swing.

ëƵAnd, we couldëƵve saved three team points at 160. Those are two of our better kids, but unfortunately they lost.ëƵ

Albert GallatinëƵs J.J. Myers slowed the run with his fall at 189 pounds against Lewis Mains at 2:27. James Standish followed with a 4-0 decision against Kaden Shannon at 215 pounds.

ëƵI had our 189-pounder winning, and he got pinned. I had our 172-pounder losing to Conroy and he came through,ëƵ said Boring, adding, ëƵEthan Kenney at 172. HeëƵs had an up-and-down year. He did a great job, caught a kid in a good position and got the pin. That was the big one.

ëƵA lot of back-and-forth, a lot of bonus points.ëƵ

The ScottiesëƵ Jake Govern won a 13-3 major decision at 285 pounds over Austin Coddington.

Southmoreland won the next four bouts by fall.

Julius Poole pinned Bryce Greco in 1:06 at 107 pounds. Nick Lubecki won by fall at 5:00 against Alex Kinsley at 114 pounds. Micah McGeary pinned Ryan Hawthorne to the mat in 2:38 at 121 pounds. Landyn Queer won by fall at 127 pounds in 2:38 against Avery Myers.

Cage Churby got the Colonials back on the board with a fall in 3:18 over Kolten Lewandowski at 133 pounds. The ScottiesëƵ Kashton Bish pinned Logan Holbert with a minute left in the 139-pound bout.
