Commodores defeat Carmichaels in OT, 64-57

The Frazier boys carried the play in overtime Tuesday night for a 64-57 victory over visiting Carmichaels in Section 4-AA action.

The Commodores (3-1, 8-5) outscored the Mikes in the overtime period, 12-5.

Carmichaels (0-4, 3-9) forced overtime with a 14-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Frazier led 30-26 at halftime and 44-38 after three quarters.

Dalian McManus paced Frazier with 16 points. Darian Bateman had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, as did Brennen Stewart with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Robbie Wilson-Jones led the Mikes with a game-high 19 points. Aydan Adamson scored 15 points and Dom Colarusso added 13.

Burgettstown 63, Bentworth 42 – The Bearcats were not able to hold a first quarter lead in a Section 4-AA loss to the visiting Blue Devils.

Bentworth (1-4, 2-9) led 15-13 after the first quarter, but Burgettstown rallied for a 27-24 lead. The visitors’ lead grew to 47-36 after three quarters.

Ben Hays led the Bearcats with 20 points. Chris Harper added 16.

Zach Shrockman scored a game-high 25 points for Burgettstown (4-0, 11-3). James Leuice and Carson Tkalcevic both finished with 15 points.

Charleroi 53, Beth-Center 36 – The Cougars returned home with a Section 4-AA victory.

Charleroi rolled out to a 22-2 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back.

Santino Revi scored 14 points and Jason Zellie added 11 for the Bulldogs (1-2, 3-8).

Bethel Park 66, Connellsville 28 – The Black Hawks scored 45 points in the first half on their way to a Section 1-AAAAA victory over visiting Connellsville.

Bethel Park (3-0, 8-4) led 25-9 after the first quarter and 45-17 at halftime.

Anthony Piasecki and Jayden McBride both scored seven points for Connellsville (0-3, 1-12).

Nick Brown finished with 12 points and Owen Turoski added 10 for Bethel Park.

Peters Twp. 84, Ringgold 35 – Peters Twp. scored all the points it needed in the first quarter for a Section 1-AAAAA victory over the visiting Rams.

Peters Twp. (2-1, 8-4) led 37-17 after the first quarter and 58-23 at halftime.

Daryl Tolliver led the way for Ringgold (0-3, 3-10) with 14 points.

Jack Dunbar paced Peters Twp. with 22 points. Dylan Donovan scored 13 and Nate Miller added 10.

Belle Vernon 81, Laurel Highlands 52 – The Leopards led 44-23 at halftime for a Section 3-AAAA home victory against the visiting Mustangs.

Belle Vernon (2-1, 7-3) extended its lead to 73-34 after three quarters.

Zion Moore scored a game-high 20 points for the Leopards. Alonzo Wade had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, as did Tommy Davis with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Curtis Waded added 19 points. Trevor Kovatch finished with six assists and six steals.

Ethan Koffler led Laurel Highlands (0-3, 2-11) with 17 points.

Yough 62, Mount Pleasant 36 – Terek Crosby scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Cougars to a Section 4-AAA home victory.

Yough (3-1, 8-4) led 15-8, 30-13 and 41-15 at the quarter breaks.

The Cougars’ Austin Matthews (15) and Zander Aird (12) also scored in double figures.

Chase McCloy led the Vikings (3-1, 4-8) with 14 points.

Washington 69, Waynesburg Central 46 – The Raiders fell behind early and were not able to rally in Section 4-AAA home loss.

The Prexies (5-0, 8-5) led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter and held a 35-20 halftime lead.

Dane Woods scored 16 points for Waynesburg (0-4, 2-9). Jackson Dean finished with 10 points. Alex Eck pulled down 10 rebounds and Cole Headlee dished out five assists.

Washington’s Zxavian Willis scored a game-high 19 points. De’Ondre Daugherty finished with 12 points and Ruben Gordon added 10.

McGuffey 68, Brownsville 54 – The Highlanders put the game away with a 22-9 fourth quarter for a Section 4-AAA road victory.

Brownsville (1-4, 5-8) led 15-13 at halftime. The game was tied at halftime, 28-28. McGuffey held a 46-43 lead after three quarters.

Harlan Davis paced the Falcons with 17 points. Kaden Wimmer added 10 points.

Aydan Cunningham scored a game-high 22 points for McGuffey (2-2, 11-3). Grayson Wallace (19) and Trey McGowan (13) also finished in double figures.

Jefferson-Morgan 54, California 47 – The Rockets used a 14-2 run in the third quarter to rally for a Section 2-A home victory.

The Trojans (2-1, 2-10) led 24-22 at halftime and increased the advantage to 31-24. Jefferson-Morgan led 40-33 at the end of the quarter after the run.

Dayten Marion scored a game-high 23 points for Jefferson-Morgan (2-1, 9-4). John Woodward Jr. scored 13.

Vinny Manzella led California with 19 points. Noah Neil finished with 18 points.

Girls basketball

Elizabeth Forward 71, Fox Chapel 50 – The Lady Warriors rallied for a 36-26 halftime lead and they pulled away in the third quarter for a non-section home win.

Elizabeth Forward (10-2) outscored Fox Chapel in the third quarter, 28-14.

The Lady Warriors’ Alyssa Terza scored a game-high 21 points. McKenna Bittner finished with 14 points and Chloe Zombek added 13.

Bella Urso led Fox Chapel (3-10) with 13 points. Isabella Barbour and Skye Byrnes scored 11 apiece.

Girls swimming

Hempfield 92, Connellsville 79 – Kassidy Callahan won two races in the Lady Falcons’ non-section home loss to the visiting Lady Spartans.

Callahan finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:11.55) and 100 breaststroke (1:19.35). Kallee Maloy won the 100 backstroke in 1:10.93, and the Lady Falcons finished first in the 400 freestyle relay.

Madelyn Johnson (200 IM), Allison Johnson (50 freestyle), and Maloy (500 freestyle) had second-place finishes.

Southmoreland’s Maria Stewart competed in the 100 butterfly (1:17.66) and 100 breaststroke (1:32.14).

Boys swimming

Hempfield 99, Connellsville 79 – William Gillott finished first in diving and Aaron Michaels won the 100 backstroke in the Falcons’ non-section loss to the visiting Spartans.

Gillott scored 191.05 points. Michaels touched the wall first in 1:08.50. Connellsville also won the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Kasey Stanton (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Dalton Shoemaker (200 IM, 100 breaststroke), and Corbin Hoffer (100 freestyle) all placed second.

Hockey

Elizabeth Forward 6, Trinity 3 – The Warriors scored four goals in the first period for a PIHL D2 Blue Division road victory over the Hillers.

Elizabeth Forward (5-5-0-0-0) pulled into a third-place tie at 10 points with Connellsville in the Blue Division with three games in hand. Trinity slips to 1-9-0-0-0.

Elizabeth Forward needed just 90 seconds to take the lead on Patrick Malanda’s goal. The lead grew to 2-0 with Joey Wach’s power play goal.

Aidan Motil added a power play goal and one at even strength for a 4-0 lead with just over three minutes to go in the first period.

Wach’s second power play goal was the lone score in the second period. Wach completed the hat trick with a goal midway through the third period.

The Warriors’ Andrew Costello stopped 26 shots in the win. Trinity’s Kirsten Lallone faced 48 shots with 42 saves.
