Jefferson-Morgan led 20-0 at halftime and kept up the momentum in the second half Friday night for a season-opening 34-6 non-conference road victory at Chartiers-Houston.

Huston Guesman accounted for all but one of the touchdowns with three scoring passes. His first two touchdown passes were 25 and 39 yards to Deakyn Dehoet in the first quarter.

Guesman found John Gilbert open for a 23-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

John Woodward scored the last two touchdowns for the Rockets. The first was on a 2-yard run in the third quarter and the second was a 3-yard pass from Guesman in the fourth quarter.

Guesman completed 10-of-16 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns, and carried the ball twice for 95 yards. Dehoet caught four passes for 103 yards. Woodward ran for 132 yards on 17 carries.

California 62, Serra Catholic 26 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The host TrojansÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Lee Qualk led the way with 363 yards rushing and six touchdowns in a non-conference victory over the Eagles.

California (1-0) held a precarious 14-7 halftime lead before ringing up 48 second-half points in cruising to the win.

Qualk scored on a 1-yard run and added the two-point conversion in the first quarter but DeÎÞëÊÓƵ™reon Washington caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Quadir Stribling as the Eagles (0-1) pulled to within 8-7.

Malachi Peak extended the TrojansÎÞëÊÓƵ™ lead with a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Washington returned the second-half kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 14-14.

Qualk put California ahead to stay with a 55-yard TD run and again added the two-point conversion.

The Eagles came right back with StriblingÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 37-yard scoring pass to Mason Jones. The extra-point kick was blocked, leaving the visitors down 22-20.

The Trojans rang up the next four touchdowns to put the game away.

Qualk scored on a 7-yard run and Landon Abercrombie contributed a 21-yard rushing TD to make it 36-20 after three quarters, and Qualk added touchdown runs of 40 and 4 yards early in the fourth quarter to put California ahead 50-20.

Stribling connected with Washington again for a 70-yard touchdown pass but the Trojans capped the scoring with TD runs of 23 yards by Logan Hartley and 58 yards by Qualk, who tallied 40 points in the game.

Stribling completed 14 of 28 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Washington had eight receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns to finish with three TDs.

Bentworth 48, Brownsville 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Benjamin Hays rushed for 100 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Bearcats to a non-conference road victory.

Hays scored on runs of 46, 28 and 49 yards, and finished with 141 yards on eight carries.

BentworthÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Ty Watson ran for a touchdown and had a 23-yard scoring pass to Lucas Burt. Anthony Washington and Alex Leichty both scored rushing touchdowns.

Quarterback Kaden Wimmer led the Falcons with 27 rushing yards on five carries and two completions for 20 yards. Exzavier Vargas ran three times for 15 yards and had one reception for 14 yards.

Greensburg Salem 28, Albert Gallatin 6 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Colonials scored first but the host Golden Lions put up the final 28 points to record the non-conference victory.

Adam Pegg broke a 68-yard touchdown run to put Albert Gallatin ahead 6-0 with 4:16 left in the first quarter.

Greensburg Salem (1-0) went ahead to stay, 7-6, in the second quarter with the first of two special teams touchdowns by Brady Smith who returned a blocked punt 12 yards for the score and Tanner Schmidt kicked the first of his four extra points.

The Lions made it 14-6 when Smith returned the second-half kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown.

Greensburg Salem added TD runs of 2 yards by Kai Brunot later in the third quarter and 1 yard by Peyton Chismar early in the fourth quarter.

Pegg led AG (0-1) in rushing with 97 yards on eight carries. Bronx Jamison completed one of his two passes for 31 yards to Nassir Moore.

Southmoreland 52, Valley 20 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Scotties were held scoreless in the first quarter, but stormed back with 52 points over the final 36 minutes for a non-conference home victory.

SouthmorelandÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Jake Kaylor had a record-setting performance with his 50-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half.

The ScottiesÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Ethan Shawley scored on runs of 3 and 23 yards.

Freshman quarterback Anthony Smith had touchdown passes of 45 yards to Makel Darnell and 21 yards to Elliot Premus. Smith completed 7-of-13 passes for 128 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Anthony PerkinsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ 16-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter gave the Vikings a 20-17 lead, but Southmoreland needed only 21 seconds to regain the lead on Camren PhillipsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ 84-yard kickoff return. Phillips also scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter and finished with 97 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Stanley Betters closed the scoring with a 39-yard interception return with 2:50 left in the game.

Jeannette 28, Mount Pleasant 27 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ KymonÎÞëÊÓƵ™e BrownÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 74-yard touchdown pass to Jayce Powell and McAlister SteeleÎÞëÊÓƵ™s point-after with three minutes left in the game lifted the Jayhawks to a non-conference home win.

Jarett Garn gave the Vikings the lead halfway through the first half with a 23-yard field goal.

The Vikings scored three times in the final eight minutes of the first half for a 20-14 halftime lead. Brody Hutter scored on a 5-yard run, Cole Chatfield returned an interception 8 yards for a score, and Garn nailed a 37-yard field goal as the half expired.

Hutter scored on a 1-yard run late in the third quarter to give the Vikings a 27-14 lead, but Brown found Powell open for a 56-yard touchdown pass with 1:45 left in the quarter.

Chatfield completed 8-of-9 passes for 105 yards. Powell caught six passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns.

Latrobe 41, Connellsville 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The first offensive play of the game resulted in a touchdown, but, unfortunately for the Falcons offense, it was the Latrobe defense scoring on John WetzelÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 25-yard interception return.

Connellsville forced two turnovers in the first quarter with a fumble and interception in the end zone, but was unable to capitalize on the miscues.

The Wildcats second touchdown in the first quarter was scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Latrobe extended its lead to 21-0 in the second quarter when Alex Tatsch took the snap on a fake punt and sprinted 51 yards to the end zone.

Brady ProvovicÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 2-yard touchdown late in the quarter gave the visitors a 28-0 halftime lead.

Wetzel and AJ Yeboah each scored on 2-yard runs in the second half.

Monessen 59, Charleroi 12 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Greyhounds offense exploded with 59 points in the annual rivalry game to open the season.

Tyvaughn Kershaw started the season by taking the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.

Kershaw also had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter after Charleroi scored on Jackson KerankoÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 12-yard scoring pass to Noah Pletcher.

Kershaw added touchdown runs of 15 and 50 yards, and 15-yard scoring reception from Dennis Hawkins. Kershaw carried the ball seven times for 169 yards.

Hawkins also threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Rodney Johnson and 10-yard scoring pass to Devontae Robinson.

Hawkins completed 10-of-11 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson ran for 108 yards on just four carries.

MonessenÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Tavian Taylor had a pair of 15-yard touchdown runs.

Keranko also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Dan Nusida. Keranko completed 15-of-29 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Nusida caught eight passes for 103 yards.

West Mifflin 17, Elizabeth Forward 16 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The difference was a failed point-after attempt in the TitansÎÞëÊÓƵ™ non-conference victory over the Warriors.

Elizabeth Forward scored in the fourth quarter on Ryan MessinaÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 12-yard pass to Charlie Nigut, but the point-after failed.

West MifflinÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Jason Martin spotted the home team the lead in the first quarter with a 19-yard field goal.

The Warriors moved into the lead on NigutÎÞëÊÓƵ™s 8-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Nigut carried the ball 25 times for 144 yards.

Luke Holdren extended Elizabeth ForwardÎÞëÊÓƵ™s lead with a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter.

West Mifflin scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to regain the lead. Zahir Ismael found the end zone on a 25-yard run and Armand Hill scored on a 44-yard run.

Ismael gained 101 yards rushing on 10 carries, while Hill carried the ball 19 times for 94 yards.

Yough 40, Brentwood 0 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ Raidon Kuroda ran for two touchdowns and threw for three more in the CougarsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ home win over the Spartans.

Kuroda scored the first two touchdowns of the game on runs of 7 and 6 yards.

He then accounted for the next three touchdowns with scoring passes to Aidan Shaffer (70, 30), and Ryan Sarver (6). Kuroda completed 9-of-15 passes for three touchdowns, and ran for 105 yards on 19 carries, and Shaffer caught three passes for 108 yards.

YoughÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Aidan Thornton carried the ball 14 times for 110 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown run.

South Allegheny 28, Ringgold 14 ÎÞëÊÓƵ“ The Gladiators led 20-7 at halftime and held the advantage in the second half for a non-conference road win.

South AlleghenyÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Ryan Cortes completed 15-of-25 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Cook caught seven passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Epps ran the ball 20 times for 207 yards.
