Robert “Bob” Balas, 82, of Collier, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his home surrounded by his beloved family and pets.

He was born February 4, 1942, in Collier, a son of the late Florian and Mary J. Kovach Balas.

Bob was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, Fairchance, and was a lifelong member of the Hutchinson ÎÞëÊÓƵmen’s Club.

He served with the United States Navy as a radioman.

For over 55 years, Bob owned and operated Robert Balas Appliance Repair. He enjoyed listening to Doo-wop, going to Lady Luck Casino at Nemacolin Woodlands, visiting Lancaster and attending family gatherings.

On August 24, 1963, he married Donna M. Wilson, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert “Bobby” Balas, at home and Chris Balas (Michael Onesko) of Penncraft; a sister, Jo Ann Dorgan of Long Branch, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three brothers: Paul Balas, Francis “Junior” Balas and Edward Balas; and two sisters, Elaine Kloc and Elizabeth Bartock.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kind and compassionate care provided by WVU Hospice.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, F.D. / Owner and Aaron S. Walker, F.D., 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels. A blessing service will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with the Reverend Thomas Lewandowski officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, at Garards Fort Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Greene County Honor Guard.
