Fred G. Bryson Sr., 79, of New Salem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024. He was born on September 24, 1944 in Uniontown, a son of the late Grover and Evalyn Shimansky Bryson

Known as “Pap” to most, Fred enlisted in the US Navy after high school. He was very proud of his service. This was evident by the many momentos that he kept for all of these years, including his uniforms.

Fred married Pauline Croftcheck on December 19th, 1964. They enjoyed 35 years together before her passing in 1999.

Fred and “Peany” had three children together; Fred Bryson Jr. (Annette) of New Salem, Lisa Sproul (Kevin) of Ohiopyle and James Bryson (April) of Smock.

Fred didn’t shy away from hard work. After the Navy he worked for Vesta 5 Coal Mine, Nelson Steel & finished out his career at US Steel, Clairton Works along side both of his sons.

Fred married his second wife Patricia Dean on August 17th, 2001. Gaining him two step-children that adored him, Deanna Dean (Scott Allen) and their family of New York and Dan Dean (Robin) of South Carolina. They enjoyed spending time together with their beloved dog, Angel. They also liked to travel for vacations and family visits. Fred and Pat were married for 18 years. She passed away in 2019.

Fred suffered a stroke in 2019 shortly before Pat’s passing. His devoted and loving daughter Lisa moved in and took pride in caring for her father until her untimely death in 2023. Fred’s oldest granddaughter Racole filled her shoes and took over as Fred’s primary caregiver.Fred was a true outdoorsman. Always gardening and maintaining his home.

He was a lifetime member of Fairbank Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his three children over the years. He most recently spent many hours in his sunroom, bird watching and sizing up deer and the occasional bear in his backyard. Never far from his side was his devoted dog, Nash. Those two were inseparable.

Fred loved all of his family, especially his grandchildren; Kevin (Haley) Sproul, Racole Sproul, Crystal (Doug) Williams, Hunter Bryson and Brittney Bryson. great-grandchildren; Jace, Emma, Aubree, Julie, and Dougie Jr.

Fred is also survived by two loving sisters. Joyce Gahagen of North Carolina and Rita Monninger of Maryland. His sister-in-law Mary Jane Craft and her Husband Bob of Uniontown.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday in The DEARTH FUNERAL HOME 35 South Mill Street New Salem, PA.

A Blessing Service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. David Slusarick officiating.

Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be accorded by The Hopwood AMVETS Post #103. www.dearthfh.com
