Eugene L. Chambers, 85, of Uniontown, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, in his home.

He was born January 11, 1939, in Juanita, a son of the late Earl Chambers, Sr. and Pauline Vincler Chambers.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Chambers, Jr.; and sister, Frances Tourville.

Gene graduated from Uniontown High School with the Class of 1958. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He ran the Chambers Service Station in Uniontown and then was a coal miner at Maple Creek

He was a member of Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, the United Mine Workers of America, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Affectionately known as “Mean Gene” due to his chiseled look and rugged demeanor at times, he had a huge heart and deeply cared about others’ wellbeing. He loved to watch his boys and grandchildren play sports. He was a dedicated football and baseball coach for many years, and never passed up an opportunity to coach his boys and their friends, as well as his grandchildren in the field of play or the backyard. He enjoyed nothing more than the presence of his entire family at gatherings to casually talk sports and life.

Gene was a proud member of the Uniontown High School Hall of Fame for his contributions to the 1957 Red Raider Football undefeated team so, in lieu of sending charitable contributions to his family, please donate to the Uniontown Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 11, Hopwood, PA 15445, in Gene’s memory.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara A. Shuba Chambers; his dedicated sons, Todd Chambers (Marissa) of Uniontown, Scott Chambers (Rosemary) of Pickering, Ohio and David Chambers (Heather) of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Grace, Abby, Joe, Christian and Caleb; a sister, Marie Zavatson of Stephens City, Va.; sister-in-law, Betty Chambers; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family has entrusted Gene’s arrangements to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, Inc., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA 15401.

At Gene’s request, a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
