Florence Bonvenuto
Point Marion
Florence Bonvenuto, 95, a 70-year resident (1947-2017) of Point Marion, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024, in the Pleasant Lake Villa Nursing Home in Parma, Ohio, following a brief illness.
Born November 15, 1928, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Stella Skory Fuss.
As a teen growing up in Pittsburgh, Florence loved the music of the 1940s and was a regular visitor of the Paragon Ballroom, where she would dance to the Big Band hits.
In 1947, while working for Nabisco Co. in Pittsburgh, her co-worker, Evelyn Cappellano, introduced Florence to her uncle, Frank Bonvenuto of Point Marion, who was back from the service as a Marine in World War II.
Frank and Florence were married May 31, 1947, moved to Point Marion, raised three children: Donna, Mark and Frank, Jr., and enjoyed 64 years of marriage until Frank’s passing in 2011.
She, along with her husband, operated The Colonial Hotel in Point Marion in the early 1960s. She also owned Florence’s Beauty Shop in the mid- to late ’60s out of her Morgantown Street home in Point Marion. In later years, Florence worked for WVU Hospital, Mylan Pharmaceuticals and Beaumont Glass, all in Morgantown, W.Va., was a cook at Post Office Pizza in Point Marion in the early 1980s, and then retired in 1991 from Beaumont Glass.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a meticulous housekeeper, and loved to cook and bake, always ready to prepare wonderful meals for family and friends to enjoy.
In December of 2017, Florence relocated to Parma, Ohio, where her youngest son, Frank, Jr. became her caregiver.
Surviving are two sons, Mark Bonvenuto of Hartville, Ohio and Frank Bonvenuto Jr. of Parma, Ohio; four grandchildren, Adam Bonvenuto, Ashley Thomas, Mackenzie Bonvenuto and Zachary Bonvenuto; four great- grandchildren, Drew, Lexi, Gavin and Preston; a sister, Nancy Kaczmarek (Charles) of Butler; two brothers, Norman Fuss of Pittsburgh, and Robert Fuss of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Her oldest child, Donna Bonvenuto, was a lifelong resident of Point Marion, and passed away in February of 2018.
Florence will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the time of a prayer service, Monday, October 14, in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Philip S. Rishel, Owner and Director, Point Marion. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. in St. Hubert’s R.C. Church. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Florence’s name, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of her late daughter, Donna; or to the National Kidney Foundation.
