Mary Anne Cox, 71, of Carmichaels, died Saturday, December 14, 2024, in Laurel Ridge Nursing Home, Uniontown, after a long illness.

Mary Anne was born June 28, 1953, in Waynesburg, the daughter of the late Guy and Carmela Falsetti Porco.

On February 21, 1976, Mary Anne married John E. Cox, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Nicole Grim (Ryan) of Morgantown, W.V.; two grandchildren, Madelyn and Caleb Grim; a brother, Frank Porco (Anita) of Dallas Texas; a sister-in-law, Theresa Porco of Pittsburgh; a devoted niece, Debbie Lippert; as well as several more nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Anne was a GOLD STAR mother, her son, Specialist 4, Gregory A. Cox, was killed in action in Balad, Iraq in 2004. A brother, Ralph Porco, is also deceased.

Mary Anne graduated from Mapletown High School and Waynesburg University, class of 1975. She had a career at Bobtown Elementary School that spanned 33 years.

Mary was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish of Masontown.

She was also a member of the Greene County Association of Retired Teachers, the PA State Education Association, the Flenniken Library Board, and a past member of the Carmichaels Grange and the Women’s Civic Club.

The family would like to thank all people and organizations for their love and support during Mary Anne’s difficult illness. John and family would like to thank local clergy for their love and prayers during this difficult time, especially Father Bob, Father James Bump and Pastor Ken for their love and support. I want to thank the Laurel Ridge Nursing Center for their excellent care and support during Mary’s illness. I especially want to thank Melissa and Michelle for their love and support during this difficult time. I couldn’t have made it without you! Thanks. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, and from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, in the PAUL M. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. in St. Francis Church, Masontown. Burial will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels.
