Sandra “Sue” Carrick Ansel, 88, of McClellandtown, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 13, 2024. She was born in 1936 to the late James and Helen Carrick.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 56 years, Lewis O. Ansel, Sr.; son, Douglas Ansel; daughter, Renee Valencheck; and brothers, James Carrick and Robert Carrick.

Sue was a graduate of German Township High School, Class of 1954, and a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was a kind and gentle person with a strong faith in God. Sue embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, unending generosity and the value of hard work.

A homemaker for many years, she enjoyed making large meals, not only for her family but was also employed at Plava Elementary School, in the cafeteria, for over 20 years.

Sue especially cherished spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are sons: Lou Jr. (Susan) and Austin (Lauren), Jim (Aretta) and Amanda (Gary) and Rhea, David (Marlene) and David Lee and Jake; grandchildren: Shane (Amber) Valencheck, Dave Valencheck, Doug Valencheck, Ashley and Jenna Ansel; many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and sister, Lois (Art) Vaccaro.

The family would liken express extreme gratitude to all those who helped over the past years: Art and Lois Vaccaro, Dave and Marlene Ansel and Amedisys Home Health Care.

Family and friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, and from 10 until 11 a.m., the hour of Service, on Friday, in the Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment follows in Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown.

Donations may be made to the German Masontown Library.
