SCI-Greene inmate charged with arson for allegedly setting fire in cell

An SCI-Greene inmate faces several felony aggravated arson charges after allegedly starting an electrical fire in his cell in December.
Charges were filed against Taevon Carr, 29, in Greene County Magisterial District Court Thursday.
Carr is accused of starting a fire on Dec. 31 by jamming a disassembled pair of nail clippers into a wall outlet.
Photos from the scene showed the greatest amount of damage occurring in the outlet, backed up by an on-scene investigation by the remnants of nail clippers showing signs of extensive contact with the flame, according to the criminal complaint.
Those were buttressed in the complaint by accounts of a surveillance video showing a bright glow coming from the cell, followed shortly by Carr being escorted from the cell, officers rushing in with fire extinguishers, and heavy plumes of smoke billowing out.
A corrections officer also reported seeing Carr setting items on fire in the cell and throwing them toward the steel door, the complaint said.
Six counts of aggravated arson causing bodily injury were filed against Carr — one for each responding officer who suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to the hospital for treatment, according to court paperwork.
Carr also faces a felony charge of risking catastrophe, plus misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
He remains lodged in prison awaiting preliminary arraignment.
