A Connellsville man was arrested Thursday after his 1-year-old son possibly ingested heroin.

Lawrence Serratta, 32, faces felony charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

According to the criminal complaint, Serratta called 911 at about 8 p.m. Thursday after his son went into cardiac arrest. Serratta showed police a stamp bag of heroin that he pulled from the baby’s mouth, and police found more heroin lying on the kitchen table.

The child was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh and is in stable condition.

Charging documents state that Serratta admitted to purchasing heroin, and that his son was able to get a stamp bag and put it in his mouth.

Serratta was sent to the Fayette County jail on $60,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 26.
