1 min read

State police charged a Dunbar man Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle.

Frank Openbrier, 54, faces felony charges of burglary, criminal mischief and attempted theft by unlawful taking.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to a car lot at 1048 National Pike, South Union Township.

Openbrier is accused in court documents of breaking the windows on a Ford Explorer and taking the keys from inside. He attempted to steal the car, and when it would not start he swapped the battery with another vehicle.

The owner of the car lot found Openbrier inside of a different vehicle.

Openbrier told police that he had entered the car lot at about 10 a.m.

Openbrier was arraigned Tuesday evening before District Judge Ronald Haggerty, who sent him to the Fayette County jail on $20,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 17.
