Connellsville man arrested following stabbing
Connellsville police arrested a man following a Monday night stabbing
Robert Edward Sparks, 38, of Connellsville, faces felony charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
According to the criminal complaint, at about 11:15 p.m. Monday police were called to a home in the 300 block of North Arch Street. Police found Richard Mickey Jr. sitting in a chair with a stab wound on the left side of chest. Multiple witnesses were trying to stop the bleeding when officers arrived.
The witnesses told investigators that Mickey and Sparks had gotten into a fight outside. Mickey retreated inside, where Sparks is accused of stabbing him.
Mickey was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh where he received a blood transfusion and underwent emergency heart surgery, according to the complaint.
Police found a pocket knife with blood on the blade lying in the grass near the home.
Sparks was arraigned Tuesday night before District Judge Nathan Henning, who sent him to the Fayette County jail without bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 22.
