Washington County Controller April Sloane could wait for her animal cruelty trial behind bars if a judge revokes her bond in the case.

In a court filing Wednesday, prosecutors wrote that North Strabane Township police received an anonymous tip that Sloane, 43, has a cat living in her home.

District Attorney Jason Walsh said that this is a “clear violation” of the bond terms set in the animal cruelty case lodged against her.

Sloane is currently free on a $150,000 unsecured bond in the case where she is accused of neglecting her dog Thor, whom prosecutors allege died of starvation. Authorities allegedly found the dog’s remains in a trash bag in Sloane’s garage in November 2023.

She faces two felony charges of aggravated animal cruelty and a misdemeanor of animal neglect.

One of the conditions of Sloane’s bond – which did not require her to post any money or property – was that she not have any animals live in her home while the case works its way through the court system.

In a response motion, Sloane’s attorney Louis Emmi denied that she has an animal living in her home. Emmi asked that the district attorney’s office produce specific evidence to support its claims.

If a judge finds Sloane violated the conditions of her bond, she could be required to post money or property to secure her release, or would have to await her September trial behind bars.

Common Pleas Judge John DiSalle signed an order scheduling a bond modification hearing for 9 a.m. July 10.
