1 min read

A Nemacolin man faces several charges after being accused of shooting another man in the leg Monday night.

Cumberland Township police were initially called shortly after 11 p.m. to Washington Health System Greene Hospital, where Duane Martin was being treated for a gunshot wound. Police said a bullet had entered Martin’s upper shin and traveled downwards, exiting from his lower calf.

According to the criminal complaint, Martin was helping fix a handgun in the basement of a neighbor’s house in the 400 block of East Fourth Avenue, Cumberland Township.

Martin told police that William Arthur King, 24, was holding the gun, facing him, when it went off. According to the complaint, Martin understood the gun belonged to King. Police said there were also two juveniles in the basement at the time the gun discharged.

According to court records, police went to the Fourth Avenue home and found the gun. Investigators determined the gun had been reported stolen to state police.

King faces felony charges of aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, and endangering the welfare of children, as well as misdemeanors of reckless endangerment.

He has yet to be arraigned on the charges.
