Lady VikingsÎÞëÊÓƵ™ Fullman advances to WPIAL singles championship

Mount PleasantÎÞëÊÓƵ™s Bella Fullman (right) defeated teammate Ryleigh Drzal in the Section 1-AA singles tournament consolation final to advance to next weekÎÞëÊÓƵ™s WPIAL Championship. Furman won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

Mount Pleasant’s Bella Fullman defeated teammate Ryleigh Drzal on Thursday in the Section 1-AA singles tournament consolation final for a berth into the WPIAL Class AA Singles Championship.

Fullman won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

Belle Vernon’s Gabriella Dusi, the defending WPIAL Class AA singles champion, won the Section 2-AA title by defeating Oakland Catholic’s Mollie Sclichter, 6-0, 6-0. She didn’t drop a game in her four matches.

The WPIAL Championship will be held at Bethel Park on Sept. 18.

Boys golf

Laurel Highlands 207, Ringgold 247 – The Mustangs were tough at home on Uniontown Country Club for a Section 2-AAA victory.

Sevi Vecchiolla had medalist honors for Laurel Highlands (5-6, 5-7) with 3-over 39. Kayden Smith finished with 40. Tyler Cook (41), Jacob Kalich (43), and Nico Harim (44) closed out the scoring.

Evan Callaway and Trevor Benson shared scoring honors for the Rams (1-10, 1-11) with 45.

Waynesburg Central 194, Brownsville 288 – The visiting Raiders rolled to a Section 3-AA win at Carmichaels Golf Club.

Waynesburg’s Chase Phillips was medalist with an even-par 37. Rykan Gustafson carded 38 and Dom Benamati shot 39. Joe Kirsch and Aidan Titus both finished with 40. Jarett Tretinik’s 42 was not used.

Ava Rohland had scoring honors for the Falcons with 45.

Frazier 215, Seton-La Salle 221 – The Commodores won a Section 8-AA match at Linden Hall Golf Course.

Frazier’s Dylan Keilbach secured low honors with a 37. Eli Cernuska (47), Aidan Hardy (43), Travis Smith (42), and Brant Alekson (46) rounded out the scoring.

John Dolan was the low man for the Rebels with 39.

Beth-Center 217, Bentworth 220; Beth-Center 217, Fort Cherry 220; Bentworth 220, Fort Cherry 220 – The Bulldogs picked up a Section 3-AA win and a non-section victory at Chippewa Golf Course.

Luke Amon fired a 1-under 34 for Beth-Center (4-6, 4-8). Parker Amos (47), Karson Keys (41), Jordan Lowman (43), and Evan Lowman (52) also counted in the final score.

Bentworth and Fort Cherry opted not to have a playoff with the non-section match ending in a tie.

Ross Skerbetz was the low man for the Bearcats with 39. The Rangers’ Jack Kitzmiller and Ben Demascal both shot 40.

Girls golf

Franklin Regional 192, Connellsville 227 – The visiting Lady Panthers returned home from Pleasant Valley Golf Club with a Section 3-AAA victory.

Abigail Humbert and Mia Martray both shot 55 for the Lady Falcons. Katie Atz finished with 58 and Isabella Nussbaumer carded 59.

Athena Neuschwander had the low score for Franklin Regional with 43.

Mount Pleasant 202, Ligonier Valley 204 – The Lady Vikings edged visiting Ligonier Valley for Section 1-AA home victory at Norvelt Golf Club.

Brynlee Baluh and Kaylee Korpiel shared scoring honors for Mount Pleasant (7-2, 7-3) with 49. Morgan Miller shot 51 and Ally Christner finished with 53.

Addy Witcoski shot 46 for the Lady Rams (6-3).

Boys soccer

Thomas Jefferson 1, Ringgold 1, 2OT – Jack Shoemaker’s penalty kick in the second half tied the Section 2-AAA match and neither team was able to score in overtime.

Nick Evans set up Izaiah Wilson for the Rams’ goal in the first half.

Thomas Jefferson and Ringgold are both 3-0-2 in the section and 4-0-2 overall.

West Mifflin 2, Belle Vernon 1 – The Titans scored the game-winning goal in the second half for a Section 3-AAA road victory.

Trevor Kovatch scored in the first half for Belle Vernon (1-3, 3-3) on Jesse Sobzcak’s first career assist.

Mount Pleasant 5, Waynesburg Central 0 – Five different players scored for the Vikings in a Section 4-AA home win.

Grant Zahrobsky and Lukas Showman both scored a goal and assisted on a goal. Bryson Bankosh, Jarett Garn and Tyler Kurtz also scored one goal apiece. Grayson Gardner and Austin Duvall combined on the shutout.

Bentworth 12, California 0 – The Bearcats led 11-0 at halftime for a Section 2-A home victory.

Andrew Vipperman and Ryan Moessner both scored a hat trick for Bentworth (3-0, 7-0). Dillan Colbert netted two goals, and Aiden McMurray, Billy Moyer, Adam Moessner and Caden Hackinson all scored one goal apiece.

Beth-Center 9, Chartiers-Houston 0 – The Bulldogs’ Luke Amon and Jason Zellie combined on the shutout for a Section 2-A victory.

Nekoda Bundy scored a hat trick for Beth-Center (1-1-0, 4-1-1). Parker Amos, Reiner King and Rylan Piper all scored two goals. Luke Amon and Jason Zellie combined on the shutout.

Allderdice 6, Uniontown 0 – Adian Thomas’ hat trick led Allderdice to a Section 3-AAA victory.

Allderdice improves to 2-0-1 in the section and 4-1-1 overall. Uniontown slips to 0-4 in the section and 1-4 overall.

Peters Twp. 8, Connellsville 0 – Peters Township handed the Falcons a Section 2-AAAA home loss behind the two-goal performances by Jeven Kelly and Brett Martin.

Connellsville slides to 0-3 in the section and 2-6 overall. Peters Twp. goes to 3-0-0 in the section and 5-1-1 overall.

Southmoreland 4, Brownsville 0 – Trent Nelson shut out the Falcons to carry the Scotties to a Section 4-AA victory.

Jack Smith scored two goals for Southmoreland (3-1, 5-2). Ethan Kenney and Hunter Ryan each scored a goal. Brownsville goes to 1-3-1 in the section and 1-4-1 overall.

Girls volleyball

Jefferson-Morgan 3, Avella 0 – The Lady Rockets won their first Section 3-A match of the season against Avella.

Emilee Bazzoli led Jefferson-Morgan (1-1, 3-4) with 12 digs. Alisa Long had 10 digs. Isabelle Bazzoli was strong at the net with 10 kills. Alaina McCollumn finished with 12 assists.

Girls volleyball

Laurel Highlands 3, Albert Gallatin 1 – The Lady Colonials won the first set, but the home team stormed back for a Section 3-AAA victory.

Albert Gallatin won the first set, 25-22. Albert Gallatin responded with sets wins of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-20.

Albert Gallatin’s stats leaders were Mitchell Turner (5 kills, 2 blocks), Mikayla Shea (7 kills), Gabby Delorenzo (6 digs), Danica Sterburzel (7 digs), Leah Myers (5 digs, 10 kills), Mia Myers (2 digs, 16 assist, 3 kills, 2 blocks), Kymber Hlatky Houze (2 digs, 3 kills), Mary Myers (2 digs), and Mya Glisan (7 kills, 3 blocks).

Ringgold 3, Uniontown 0 – Ringgold swept to a Section 3-AAA road victory by the scores, 25-18, 25-13, 25-13.

The Lady Rams improved to 4-0 in the section and 5-1 overall.

Ryleigh Jose (4 kills, 8 digs), Maggie Campbell (8 assists, 3 digs, 3 kills, 2 blocks), Ava Livingood (3 blocks, 2 kills, 2 digs), Layla Fitzgerald (3 blocks, 2 kills), and Lauren White (2 digs) were stats leaders for Uniontown.

Waynesburg Central 3, Burgettstown 0 – The Lady Raiders were tough at home for a Section 3-AA victory.

Waynesburg (4-0, 5-0) won by the scores, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16.

Waynesburg Central was led by Emily Rafferty (14 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces), Bailey Rafferty (9 assists, 9 digs, 4 kills), Ani Cree (7 digs), Lelia McCollum (11 digs, 4 assists, 2 aces), and Gina Tedrow (9 assists, 2 aces).

Bentworth 3, Brownsville 0 – The Lady Bearcats swept to victory in three close sets for a Section 3-AA win.

Bentworth won by the scores, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19.

Payton Evanchak had seven assists, eight service points and three aces for Brownsville (1-3, 1-5). Skylar Gates had 11 kills. Ashley Evanchak finished with 16 digs, and Mia O’Hern had seven service points.

Chelsea Dindal (8 kills), Olivia Telegraphis (15 digs), and Zoie McDonald (15 assists) led Bentworth.

Carmichaels 3, Mapletown 0 – The Lady Mikes rolled to a Section 3-A win at Mapletown.

Carmichaels swept to victory by the scores, 25-15, 25-13, 25-21.

Ashton Batis (11 digs, 1 kill, 3 aces, 3 assists) Pacey Pratt (5 digs, 5 kills, 4 aces), Avery Voithofer (11 digs, 5 aces, 12 assists), Bailey Barnyak (7 digs, 6 kills), and Brenna Walker (3 kills) all contributed in the Lady Mikes’ road win.

Mapletown (0-2, 0-3) was led by Treslee Weston (8 kills, 14 digs), Marley Seward (4 kills, 12 digs), Marley Shifflet (6 assists, 5 digs), and Miranda Fox (4 kills, 6 digs).

California 3, Geibel Catholic 0 – The Lady Trojans swept past Geibel for a Section 4-A road victory.

California won by the scores, 25-7, 25-13, 25-5.
